Islamabad, Pakistan – In a significant development, former aviation minister Ghulam Sarwar Khan was arrested in the early hours of Wednesday in Islamabad, as confirmed by a police official. The arrest is related to his alleged involvement in the May 9 riots case, which shook the nation earlier this year.
The arrest was carried out through a joint operation by the Rawalpindi and capital police, according to Inspector Sajjadul Hassan, the spokesperson for the Rawalpindi police. Along with Ghulam Sarwar Khan, the operation also resulted in the arrest of Ammar Siddique Khan, a former member of the Punjab legislature, and Mansoor Hayat Khan, a former member of the National Assembly.
The police operation resulted in the arrest of the ex-aviation minister and the other individuals, who have since been transferred to a police station in Taxila for further processing. Authorities had been searching for Ghulam Sarwar Khan for over a month in connection to the May 9 violence case, in which he has been named as a suspect among others.
It is worth mentioning that Ghulam Sarwar Khan has not announced his departure from the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) or resigned from any party position at this time, unlike some other leaders who faced legal scrutiny in recent times.
In a related development, a Lahore anti-terrorism court issued non-bailable arrest warrants for PTI chief Imran Khan and several other former and current party leaders in cases related to the vandalism during the May 9 riots. The riots resulted in the tragic loss of eight lives and left 290 people injured.
The unrest on May 9 erupted after Imran Khan’s arrest by the National Accountability Bureau in the Al-Qadir Trust case. Protesters had also stormed the residence of the corps commander in Lahore, known as Jinnah House, and tore down a gate at the General Headquarters in Rawalpindi.

As the legal proceedings continue, the arrest of Ghulam Sarwar Khan in connection to the May 9 riots case marks a significant development. The authorities will closely monitor the progress of the investigation, ensuring a fair and transparent process in order to determine the extent of his alleged involvement in the violence.
The nation will follow these developments closely, hoping for justice to prevail and for a thorough examination of the events surrounding the May 9 riots, shedding light on the responsibility of all individuals involved.
