Severe Thunderstorm and Heavy Rain Forecasted in Karachi from June 14-16

Karachi, Pakistan – The Meteorological Department has issued a concerning forecast for Karachi, predicting a three-day onslaught of severe weather from June 14 to 16. Residents are urged to exercise caution as the city prepares for a powerful thunderstorm accompanied by heavy rainfall. With wind speeds estimated between 140 and 150 kilometers per hour, the metropolis is set to face challenging conditions in the coming days.

In addition to the thunderstorm and heavy rain, the Met Department has also alerted the public to persistently hot weather on Wednesday. Dusty and strong winds have already begun sweeping through the city, signaling the imminent arrival of the storm. Karachi’s residents are advised to stay indoors and take necessary precautions to ensure their safety during this period of inclement weather.

According to the latest meteorological observations, today’s minimum temperature stood at 29 degrees Celsius, accompanied by a humidity level of 69%. As the storm approaches, the maximum temperature is expected to reach highs of 36 to 38 degrees Celsius. To add to the challenging conditions, winds from the land side are currently blowing at speeds of 25 to 30 kilometers per hour.

Unfortunately, the severe weather conditions are taking a toll on the city’s power supply. The impending storm threatens to disrupt the fuel supply to power companies, leading to increased load shedding by Karachi Electric (K-Electric). Even areas that were previously exempt from power outages are now experiencing interruptions, as a concerned citizen reported a suspension of power supply between midnight and 5 am last night.

The K-Electric has attributed the increase in load shedding to the impact on liquefied natural gas (LNG) supply caused by the storm. The company’s spokesperson expressed concerns over the potential negative effects on power generation. As a result, K-Electric is resorting to implementing four to ten hours of load shedding in different areas to manage the strain on the power grid.

Authorities are actively monitoring the situation and maintaining constant communication to address the challenges posed by the severe weather conditions. The spokesperson emphasized that the additional load shedding would also be applicable to previously exempted customers, highlighting the gravity of the situation.

Residents of Karachi are advised to stay informed through official channels and heed any instructions or warnings issued by local authorities. It is crucial to remain prepared for power outages, secure loose objects that may become projectiles in strong winds, and ensure adequate supplies of essential items.

As the storm approaches, the Meteorological Department, along with relevant agencies, will continue to monitor the situation closely and provide updates to safeguard the well-being of the residents of Karachi. It is paramount that everyone takes the necessary precautions and stays safe during this period of severe weather.
