Today, the Islamabad High Court (IHC) has directed the capital chief commissioner to make a prompt decision regarding the request made by Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chief Imran Khan to shift courts to the Federal Judicial Complex (FJC). The court’s directives came during the hearing of Imran Khan’s plea, seeking the relocation of several courts from Sector F-8 Markaz to the FJC in Sector G-11.
Imran Khan’s petition stated that the fragile law and order situation within the premises of the sessions court in Sector F-8 Markaz made it inconvenient for him to appear before the relevant judicial magistrates’ trial courts. During the hearing, Imran Khan, accompanied by his lawyer Barrister Ali Zafar, appeared before the IHC.
When asked by the IHC Chief Justice Aamer Farooq if they had submitted a request for shifting the courts to the judicial complex, Barrister Ali Zafar responded that they had not done so yet. Justice Farooq clarified that the court could not issue directives in this matter and that they must come from the Islamabad chief commissioner.
The IHC chief justice advised Imran Khan’s lawyer to approach the court if they were dissatisfied with the decision made by the chief commissioner. The judge then instructed the chief commissioner to decide on Imran Khan’s request by the end of the day.
Subsequently, Imran Khan submitted a request to the Islamabad chief commissioner, outlining that he had been granted pre-arrest bail by the IHC in nine cases until June 12. The cases were registered at various police stations, including the capital’s Secretariat, Ramna, Shehzad Town, Khanna, Tarnol, Kohsar, and Karachi Company police stations.
The letter emphasized that Imran Khan had filed a writ petition seeking a change in the venue of the hearings, and the court had directed them to refer to the chief commissioner. The request urged the chief commissioner to relocate the hearings of the nine cases to the FJC.
In an informal conversation with reporters, Imran Khan expressed his willingness to cooperate with the joint investigation team probing the Arshad Sharif case. The PTI chief’s commitment to cooperating with the ongoing investigation indicates his dedication to due process and the rule of law.
The court’s decision to expedite the process of considering Imran Khan’s request for shifting courts to the FJC highlights the importance of ensuring a safe and conducive environment for judicial proceedings. The delicate law and order situation raised concerns about the convenience and security of all individuals involved in the legal process.
As the chief commissioner deliberates on the request, the decision will have far-reaching implications for the administration of justice in Islamabad. It will determine whether the relocation of courts can address the concerns raised by Imran Khan, ensuring the smooth operation of legal proceedings and the safety of all parties involved.
