Nawaz Sharif not attacked in London

  • No one attacked Nawaz Sharif in London.

Contrary to earlier reports in Pakistani media, it has been confirmed that there was no attack on former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif at a café in Central London on Saturday evening.

Nawaz Sharif was present on Bond Street in London, accompanied by his two bodyguards and driver, when a confrontation unfolded between Black Lives Matter (BLM) protesters and the police. The BLM activists had organized a picket to advocate for their rights.

During the clash between the protesters and the police, one of the BLM demonstrators threw coffee at a nearby parked car, which happened to be Nawaz Sharif’s vehicle. Simultaneously, the police were arresting another activist, as seen in footage where a person wearing a white hazmat suit with Black Lives Matter slogans was being taken away by the police.

The news of the attack on Nawaz Sharif began circulating after a tweet by PML-N activist Khurram Butt, who claimed that PTI (Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf) supporters had assaulted the former prime minister. Khurram Butt later confirmed to a reporter that around 10 PTI workers had attacked Nawaz Sharif.

PTI goons this evening attacked Mian Nawaz Sharif’s vehicle. Nawaz Sharif is fine and unhurt. Alhamdulillah. The attacker has been arrested and is in police custody,” Khurram Butt wrote on Twitter, sharing pictures of the vehicle and a man being taken away by the police.

However, Khurram Butt subsequently deleted his tweet. A source from the Sharif family stated that there was no attack on the former prime minister and that he happened to be present at the location when the clash occurred between the BLM protesters and the police. The coffee thrown was not intended for Nawaz Sharif but happened to hit his parked vehicle.

The police confirmed the arrest of one man at the scene but provided no further details regarding the incident.
