During a youth convention rally, Maryam Nawaz Sharif, the senior vice president of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), launched a scathing attack on Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan, accusing him of orchestrating the violence that erupted on May 9.
Maryam Nawaz claimed that Imran Khan had done what the enemies of the nation could not achieve, alleging that the riots were planned in Zaman Park under his leadership. She further stated that the main target of the attack was Jinnah House, as other shopping malls and government installations were left untouched by the rioters.
Emphasizing that the plan to destroy enemy planes was devised in Mianwali, Maryam Nawaz asserted that the rioters had a clear strategy regarding their targets on that fateful night.
The chief organizer of PML-N highlighted that the protests led by PTI were, in fact, attacks on security installations, emphasizing that the main objective was to hit sensitive and important properties.
Referring to the “facilitators” of Imran Khan, Maryam Nawaz held them equally responsible for the May 9 riots, as they had supported the PTI chairman from 2018 to 2022.
Maryam Nawaz underlined that she was not afraid of going to prison, in contrast to Imran Khan, because the Sharif family’s intentions were focused on the betterment of the country, not on ruling over it.
She alleged that PML-N leaders always stepped forward to defend their workers, unlike the PTI, as Imran Khan used his supporters as shields to evade arrest.
Maryam Nawaz further claimed that those leaving the PTI were essentially admitting that Imran Khan bore the primary responsibility for the May 9 riots. She added that no member of the PML-N had deserted the party when her father, Mian Nawaz Sharif, faced oppression.
Accusing Imran Khan of indifference toward the ordinary masses, Maryam Nawaz pointed out that the children of PTI workers were languishing in prisons while Khan’s own children were enjoying a luxurious life in London.
The chief organizer of PML-N concluded by stating that those who attempted to erase Nawaz Sharif’s name from Pakistani politics had ultimately been eliminated from the political discourse themselves, asserting that Nawaz Sharif’s influence would continue to shape the country’s politics.
