8 ‘terrorists’ fleeing from Zaman Park arrested, claims Punjab govt

LAHORE: Punjab Caretaker Information Minister Amir Mir announced that eight individuals suspected of being terrorists were apprehended while attempting to flee from Imran Khan’s residence in Zaman Park, Lahore. These detainees had been previously identified and are believed to be involved in the attack on the Lahore Corps Commander House on May 9.
Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Civil Lines Hasan Javed confirmed the presence of around 30 to 40 individuals at Khan’s residence. Eight suspects were taken into custody while trying to escape via the nearby canal. The SSP noted that there are still reports of more individuals at Zaman Park, and the decision to conduct a search operation will be made by higher authorities.
The SSP also mentioned that other suspects had attempted to flee but retreated upon seeing the police presence outside the residence.
In response, Imran Khan, the Chairman of PTI, accused the Punjab interim government of being unlawful and demanded that they disclose the names of the alleged terrorists hiding at his residence. He referred to a previous incident when his house was forcefully entered, and weapons were planted to falsely implicate him.
Amidst these developments, there were indications that the Punjab Police might initiate a significant operation to arrest the suspected terrorists believed to be residing at Khan’s Zaman Park residence.
The Punjab government had issued a 24-hour ultimatum to PTI to surrender the individuals seeking refuge at the former prime minister’s home. However, the deadline expired earlier today at 2 pm.
Law enforcement authorities have blocked all roads leading to Zaman Park, and a substantial contingent of security personnel has been deployed in the area.
