However, even tech giants like Facebook, Instagram, and Threads faced downtime on Tuesday (March 5), contradicting the famous line from the movie “The Social Network.” Users took to X to share their experiences and inquire about the issues.
Down Detector, a website tracking online service disruptions, received an overwhelming number of reports, with over 650,000 noting Facebook’s outage and around 150,000 reporting issues with Instagram.
While this downtime may affect the user experience, it could also impact the companies’ revenues, especially considering increased advertising costs in 2024. Meta’s spokesman, Andy Stone, assured users on X that the technical issues were resolved within two to three hours, apologizing for any inconvenience caused.
