Work From Home Policy Approved in KP Amid Petrol Price Hike

The government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) has approved a 50% work-from-home policy for employees in provincial government departments as part of measures to reduce fuel consumption during rising petrol prices.

The decision was announced in Peshawar by Special Assistant to the Chief Minister for Information, Shafi Jan.

Key Measures Announced

  • 50% Work From Home: Half of the staff in government departments will work remotely.
  • Virtual Meetings: All official meetings will be held 100% online.
  • Fuel Reduction:
    • Fuel allowance for government vehicles reduced by 25%.
    • Overall government vehicle fuel consumption to be cut by 50%.
  • VIP Protocol Restrictions: Reduced use of official vehicles and helicopters.
  • Reduced Government Spending: Non-essential events, dinners, and ceremonies will be limited.

Departments Exempted

Certain essential services will not follow the fuel reduction rules, including:

  • Police
  • Rescue services
  • Security agencies

Additional Energy-Saving Steps

According to Finance Advisor Muzzammil Aslam:

  • Market hours may be shortened to save energy.
  • Educational institutions will prioritize virtual classes.
  • A proposal has been made to close offices on Fridays to further reduce fuel usage.

Duration of the Policy

The measures will remain in effect for two months initially.

Government’s Objective

The KP government says the policy aims to:

  • Reduce fuel consumption
  • Improve energy efficiency
  • Protect the economy without burdening the public

Authorities also confirmed that fuel supply for farmers during wheat harvesting will be ensured, while petrol pumps will continue to be monitored to prevent hoarding.
