Islamabad: An Anti-Terrorism Court on Monday extended till April 29 the interim bail of PTI leader and former Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Quresh in two different cases registered against him under terrorism charges for vandalism in the federal capital.
As the hearing commenced, Shah Mahmood Qureshi appeared before the court and the officials from the prosecution side also turned up there.
“You have brought former foreign minister to the dock. What is the reason?,” asked the judge while addressing the prosecution officers.
The prosecution said that he provoked the workers to attack the police and said told the court that he was not there on the day of the occurrence.
On it, Qureshi said that it was just a case of provocation and they would fail to prove it. He said they admitted it that he was not there on the day of clashes.
At this, the judge remarked, “Then his soul would be there,”.
The judge extended the bail of the PTI vice-chairman till April 29 and observed that his case and the case of Imran Khan would be heard on the same day.
Ali Bukhari, the counsel of Shah Mahmood Qureshi, said that his client wanted to join the investigation, arguing that the cases registered against him were politically motivated.
Later, talking to the reporters, Shah Mahmood Qureshi said that there were two sections; one was calling for supremacy of the law and the Constitution and the other was adamant to violate these laws.
“Today is April 10th and today they [the coalition government] have to release the funds for the ECP for elections. According to my information, no funds have so far been provided,” said the minister, adding that the secretary finance neither appeared before the court nor he was on duty as he went on the leave.
“ The Finance Secretary is an upright officer and therefore, he did not become part of all this plan, because these people wanted him to use,”: he added.
The Islamabad police booked Shah Mahmood Qureshi and several others under terrorism charges for provoking the workers, pelting stones at the law enforcement personnel and torturing them on the day when Imran Khan appeared before the court in the judicial complex.
