US Expresses Concerns, Opposes Pakistan-Iran Gas Pipeline Project

The US stated on Tuesday that it does not support the Pakistan-Iran gas pipeline project and warned about the possibility of facing sanctions when doing business with Tehran.

Petroleum Minister Musadik Malik had mentioned a day earlier that Pakistan would ask for an exemption from US sanctions regarding the gas pipeline project.

The Pakistan-Iran gas pipeline has been a long-term project between Tehran and Islamabad, facing various delays and financial challenges over the years. A spokesperson from the US State Department advised caution when dealing with Iran due to the risk of sanctions, emphasizing the need for careful consideration.

“We do not support the continuation of this pipeline,” the spokesperson added, referencing comments made by Donald Lu, the State Department’s top official for South and Central Asia, to a congressional panel the previous week.
