US Begins Major Combat Operations in Iran, President Trump Announces

The United States has launched “major combat operations” inside Iran, President Donald Trump announced on Friday, saying the strikes are aimed at destroying Iranian missile capabilities and crippling its naval forces.

In a video message posted on his Truth Social platform, President Trump said the US offensive is focused on eliminating what he described as “imminent threats from the Iranian regime.” He vowed to “destroy their missiles and raze their missile industry to the ground,” framing the operation as essential for long-term global security.

The president acknowledged that American casualties are possible but described the campaign as a “noble mission” designed to protect future generations. He reiterated Washington’s longstanding position that Iran must never acquire a nuclear weapon and accused Iranian leaders of years of hostility, backing militant groups, and continuing to expand nuclear and ballistic missile programmes.

Offer of Surrender, Warning of ‘Certain Death’

President Trump also addressed members of Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) and the broader armed forces, offering safe passage to those who surrender. He warned that those who continue to resist would face “certain death.”

His remarks signal a significant escalation in US military involvement, marking one of the most direct confrontations between Washington and Tehran in recent years.

Coordinated Strikes with Israel

The announcement follows coordinated strikes reportedly carried out alongside Israel, with explosions reported across Tehran and other major cities. Military infrastructure, including missile facilities and naval assets, were said to be primary targets.

Iranian authorities have indicated that retaliation is possible, raising fears of a broader regional conflict that could draw in additional actors across the Middle East.

Diplomatic Breakdown

The military escalation comes after weeks of stalled diplomatic negotiations between Washington and Tehran over nuclear issues. Efforts to revive or renegotiate understandings on Iran’s nuclear programme reportedly failed, with both sides accusing each other of inflexibility.

In his message, President Trump also appealed directly to the Iranian public, urging them to “take over” their government once military pressure weakens the ruling establishment — a statement likely to further inflame tensions.

Regional and Global Concerns

The launch of major US combat operations has intensified concerns among global powers about the risk of a wider war. Energy markets, regional security alliances, and international shipping routes could all be affected if hostilities continue or escalate.

With Iranian retaliation expected and US forces now directly engaged, the situation remains highly volatile, and the coming hours are likely to prove critical for regional stability.
