Three Arab families among top 5 as Bloomberg releases World’s Richest Families 2025 list
International business magazine Bloomberg has released its annual ranking of the World’s Richest Families 2025, revealing that three ruling families from the Arab world are among the top five wealthiest families globally.
According to the report, the combined net worth of the world’s 25 richest families surged by $358.7 billion over the past year, pushing their total wealth to an estimated $2.9 trillion, highlighting the growing concentration of global wealth.
The list includes three prominent Middle Eastern dynasties — the Al Nahyan family of the United Arab Emirates, the Al Saud family of Saudi Arabia, and the Al Thani family of Qatar — reflecting the enduring economic influence of Gulf monarchies.
Bloomberg ranked Abu Dhabi’s ruling Al Nahyan family as the second-richest family in the world, with an estimated fortune of $335.9 billion, largely driven by vast oil reserves, sovereign investments and diversified holdings across global markets.
Saudi Arabia’s royal Al Saud family secured the third position, with a combined net worth estimated at $213.6 billion, supported by decades of energy wealth, real estate assets and state-linked investments.
Meanwhile, Qatar’s ruling Al Thani family placed fourth, with an estimated fortune of $199.5 billion, bolstered by natural gas revenues and strategic international investments.
Topping the list once again was the Walton family of the United States, owners of global retail giant Walmart, with a net worth estimated at $513.4 billion, making them the wealthiest family in the world.
Bloomberg noted that rising asset values, strong equity markets and energy-sector gains contributed significantly to the wealth expansion of elite families, particularly in the Gulf region.
The World’s Richest Families 2025 ranking underscores the growing financial influence of Middle Eastern ruling families on the global economic stage amid shifting geopolitical and investment dynamics.
