Suspect confesses to harassing, attempting to kidnap social media influencer

ISLAMABAD – September 2, 2025: A judicial magistrate on Tuesday granted a five-day police remand of the suspect arrested for allegedly harassing and attempting to kidnap social media influencer Samiya Hijab.

The suspect, Hassan Zahid, was produced before Judicial Magistrate Yasir Mehmood Chaudhry. During the hearing, the judge questioned him over his alleged threats and abduction attempt. Zahid admitted guilt, saying in open court: “Sir, I made a mistake.”

The investigating officer requested an eight-day physical remand, arguing that police still needed to recover a vehicle, pistol, and cash. However, the court approved only five days of remand.

Islamabad police had earlier arrested Zahid after Hijab lodged a complaint at Shalimar Police Station.

In her FIR, Hijab alleged that the suspect had been stalking her for several days. She recounted that on Sunday evening, around 6:30 pm, he attempted to forcibly abduct her from her residence when she was returning his gifts.

“This constitutes abduction, harassment, and assault under the law. I have CCTV footage as evidence,” the FIR quoted her as saying.

Hijab later released a video on Instagram, thanking Islamabad police for their swift action. However, she also claimed that the suspect had tried to pressure her into withdrawing the complaint.
