Suryakumar Yadav Demands Mohsin Naqvi’s Removal from Asia Cup Trophy Ceremony
ISLAMABAD: The Asia Cup 2025 continues to generate headlines, as Indian captain Suryakumar Yadav has reportedly requested that Asian Cricket Council (ACC) chairman and Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chief Mohsin Naqvi be excluded from the trophy presentation ceremony.
According to Reports, Yadav made a formal request citing the ongoing diplomatic row that erupted after the now-infamous handshake controversy between Pakistan and India.
From handshake row to full-blown crisis
The matter began as a minor “no-handshake” incident on Sunday but quickly snowballed into a diplomatic and cricketing flashpoint. Pakistan had even hinted at pulling out of the tournament if its concerns were not addressed.
The controversy intensified when the PCB demanded the removal of ICC match referee Andy Pycroft, who was officiating Pakistan’s matches. The ICC has since assigned Ritchie Richardson for the Pakistan vs UAE clash, but Pycroft’s involvement in upcoming fixtures is still under review.
Yadav’s demand and PCB’s position
Suryakumar Yadav has reportedly conveyed to the ACC that he does not want Mohsin Naqvi to present the Asia Cup trophy to India, should his side win the tournament.
Meanwhile, Naqvi is expected to issue a statement regarding Pakistan’s continued participation in the event, while also reiterating the PCB’s concerns over the officiating and treatment of its players.
The ACC has yet to officially respond to Yadav’s request, leaving uncertainty looming over the tournament’s closing ceremony.
