Man arrested for harassing, attempting to kidnap social media influencer Samiya Hijab
ISLAMABAD – September 2, 2025: A man has been arrested by Islamabad police for allegedly harassing and attempting to kidnap social media influencer Samiya Hijab, following her formal complaint and video statement.
According to a police spokesperson, an FIR was registered at Shalimar Police Station under multiple sections of the Pakistan Penal Code, including 354 (assault or use of criminal force to outrage a woman’s modesty), 365 (kidnapping), 392 (robbery), 500 (defamation), 509 (sexual harassment), and 511 (attempt to commit an offence).
In her complaint, Samiya Hijab stated that the suspect had been stalking her for several days before trying to abduct her near her residence on Sunday evening. “The matter escalated when he attempted to abduct me from my residence while I was returning his gifts. This constitutes abduction, harassment, and assault under the law. I have CCTV footage as evidence,” the FIR quoted her as saying.
Hijab later released a video message on Instagram, thanking Islamabad police for their swift action, but also claimed that the suspect was now pressuring her to withdraw the complaint.
The case has sparked fresh debate on women’s safety and harassment in Pakistan, with social media users demanding stricter punishments for offenders targeting women online and offline.
