Sindh to issue Benazir Hari Card for newly registered farmers
The Sindh government has announced that it will begin issuing the much-awaited Benazir Hari Card to thousands of newly registered farmers across the province. Agriculture Minister confirmed on Thursday that Sindh Bank has been officially tasked with preparing and distributing the cards. According to details, registration and verification of nearly 80,000 farmers have already been completed, while 50,000 Benazir Hari Cards are expected to be distributed by the end of this month. Authorities plan to release an additional 50,000 cards every 20 days until the entire list of verified farmers is covered.
Through the Benazir Hari Card, farmers will not only be able to access subsidies but also receive much-needed financial assistance to support their agricultural activities. The minister further revealed that the government is also working to encourage sustainable farming practices by subsidizing the conversion of drip irrigation systems to solar energy. Farmers owning between five and 25 acres of land will be eligible to benefit from subsidized solar power panels under this program.
The plan includes installing nearly 295 solar units on 4,000 acres of farmland, with the Sindh government bearing 80 percent of the cost while farmers contribute the remaining 20 percent. Applications for the Benazir Hari Card can be submitted at the Hyderabad office until September 20.
It is worth noting that the initiative was first promised by PPP Chairman during his election campaign in Naushahro Feroze earlier in 2024, when he announced relief measures for farmers on the model of the Benazir Income Support Programme. The Sindh government believes the launch of the Benazir Hari Card will significantly ease the burden on farmers and promote sustainable agriculture in the province.
