Shaheen Afridi changed his profile picture in support of Imran Khan

Shaheen Afridi, the young fast bowler of Pakistan, has taken to social media to show his support for former Prime Minister Imran Khan. In a recent move, Afridi changed his Twitter profile picture to one featuring the PTI chairman. This gesture has been seen as a sign of the growing support for Imran Khan, who is facing mounting pressure from opposition parties and critics.

This is not the first time that Shaheen Afridi has shown his support for Imran Khan. In June 2020, Afridi met Khan and a picture of their meeting went viral on social media. At the time, Afridi tweeted that it was an “honour” to meet the PTI chairman and that he was “a true inspiration for me and millions of Pakistanis.”

It is worth noting that Imran Khan has a strong connection to cricket in Pakistan. He is a former captain of the Pakistan cricket team and led the team to victory in the 1992 Cricket World Cup. Since then, he has been a vocal advocate for the development of cricket in Pakistan and has been involved in the administration of the sport.

Shaheen Afridi is not the only Pakistani cricketer to show support for Imran Khan on social media. Former captain Wasim Akram recently tweeted in support of Khan, writing, “You are one man, but you have the strength of millions. Stay strong skipper.” These messages of support come at a time when Imran Khan is facing increasing pressure from opposition parties and critics.

The recent arrest of former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has also contributed to tensions in the country. Sharif was arrested in October 2021 on charges of corruption and money laundering. His arrest has led to clashes between his supporters and police, and the interior ministry has suspended mobile broadband services in the country.

The situation in Pakistan is complex, with tensions between political parties and divisions within society. Imran Khan’s supporters see him as a strong leader who is working to improve the country’s economy and address corruption. However, his critics accuse him of authoritarianism and failing to address important issues such as inflation and poverty.

The role of sports and athletes in politics is a topic of debate around the world. While some argue that athletes should remain apolitical, others believe that they have a responsibility to use their platform to speak out on issues that matter to them. In Pakistan, cricket is a hugely popular sport and cricketers have a significant influence on public opinion.

However, it is important to remember that athletes are individuals with their own beliefs and opinions. While Shaheen Afridi and Wasim Akram may support Imran Khan, other cricketers may have different views. It is not fair to expect athletes to speak out on political issues if they do not feel comfortable doing so.
