“Punjab govt enforces 10-day Section 144
LAHORE: The Interior Ministry on Tuesday imposed Section 144 in Punjab for the 10 days, restricting public gathering of more than four to five people at public places.
The government sent a letter to the Ministry of Communication, requesting the suspension of mobile services in major cities of the provinces in Pakistan, with the aim of preserving peace and preventing any potential disruptions.
Mian Shakeel Ahmed, the Additional Chief Secretary of Home, affirmed that the government is committed to protecting the safety of citizens and their assets, no matter the expense.
The government took the decision after Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) workers and supports took to streets against the arrest of their party chief Imran Khan from the Islamabad High Court premises. Khan reached the IHC to get the protective bail in multiple case, when Rangers personnel arrested him in the Al-Qadir Trust case. The arrest of Imran Khan was also confirmed by the National Accountability Bureau (NAB).
Following the arrest of Khan, the PTI workers staged protests across the country. The workers set tyres on fire and blocked the main roads and highways during the protest.
