Public Holiday on August 13 in Islamabad Ahead of Independence Day 2025

Public Holiday on August 13 in Islamabad Ahead of Independence Day Celebrations

ISLAMABAD: The Islamabad administration has declared a public holiday on Tuesday, August 13, 2025, just a day before the country’s 78th Independence Day celebrations.

According to the official notification issued on August 12, the holiday applies to all government and private offices in the federal capital, while essential services will continue as usual. The announcement comes as part of preparations for nationwide festivities marking Pakistan’s independence from British rule in 1947.

Independence Day Preparations in Full Swing

This year, Pakistan will observe its 78th Independence Day on August 14 with traditional zeal and patriotic fervor. Major cities, including Karachi, Lahore, Quetta, and Peshawar, are already adorned with green and white flags, decorative lights, and banners.

In Islamabad, the main flag-hoisting ceremony will be held at Parliament House, attended by top political and military leadership. Cultural shows, parades, and musical performances are also scheduled, while educational institutions are organizing debates, art competitions, and poetry recitals to involve youth in the celebrations.

Ban on Vuvuzelas Ahead of Celebrations

In a move aimed at maintaining public peace, the Islamabad administration has imposed a ban on the sale and use of ‘baajas’ (vuvuzelas) during Independence Day festivities.

The decision comes after past complaints about excessive noise and public disturbance caused by the loud instruments. Deputy Commissioner Islamabad has warned that violators will face strict legal action under the city’s public nuisance laws.

Earlier Holiday in Sindh

This announcement follows a recent decision by the Sindh government to observe a public holiday on August 9, marking the 282nd annual Urs of Sufi saint Hazrat Shah Abdul Latif Bhittai.

Public Sentiment and Traffic Management

Residents of the capital have welcomed the early holiday, noting that it will allow them to prepare for Independence Day festivities and avoid traffic congestion on the main event day. Authorities have also advised citizens to follow safety guidelines during public gatherings.

Security has been tightened in sensitive areas, and traffic police have issued special plans to ensure smooth movement during celebrations.
