‘PTI leaders recorded statement,’ JIT head tells court in terror cases

LAHORE: SSP Imran Kishwar, the head of Joint Investigation Team (JIT) constituted to probe the attacks on the security personnel, informed an anti-terrorism court that the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leaders who earlier did not join investigation now recorded the statements.

The JIT head submitted his reply after the court directed him to record the statements of the PTI leaders.

The court, after the hearing, extended interim bail of the PTI leaders till April 27.

Earlier, PTI leaders including Asad Umar, Dr. Yasmin Rashid, Aslam Iqbal, Zubair Niazi and Hassan Niazi appeared before the court.

During the hearing, the JIT head said that the PTI leaders did not join the investigation except Asad Umar. He said that he needed to record the statement in front of the witnesses. At this, the court directed the PTI leaders to record their statements at 2: 30 pm today.

Previously, the JIT summoned Imran Khan and others to record their statement but they did not appear before it.

Taking to Twitter, Fawad Chaudhary said that they would file petition against formation of the JIT as Mohsin Naqvi, the inter CM, Punjab IGP and CCPO were responsible for the death of Zile Shah, so how the JIT made by these people could summon them and investigate the matter.

Fawad, later, challenged the JIT before the Lahore High Court and made Punjab Interim CM, IGP and others as respondents. He argued that the interim government could not make the JIT as its formation required nod of the cabinet. He said that the cabinet’s approval was not taken on formation of the JIT to investigate the terror cases.

The PTI leader asked the court to set aside the formation of the JIT for being illegal and unlawful.
