LAHORE: The police on Thursday produced 12 Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leaders including former Punjab Governor Omar Sarfraz Cheema before an anti-terrorism court in a case related to vandalism and attack on the police with the petrol bombs.
The police produced Omar Sarfraz Cheema with hand-cuffed and asked the court to hand them over to physical remand.
The former Punjab governor, who was hand-cuffed, was spotted on the premises of the court being escorted to a lockup by the police.
The Anti-Corruption Establishment officials arrested Cheema from his residence on Wednesday morning and later handed him over to Lahore police for his alleged involvement in terrorism case.
According to the ACE officials, Cheema, as a former governor, misused his authority and got his sister’s name included in the inheritance registration certificate through forgery. They also alleged that Cheema’s sister, Fatima Sarfraz Cheema, had divorced her husband, Dr. Zahir Safdar, in 2013, and the divorce documents were filed in the Union Council Walton.
However, after the death of Dr. Zahir Safdar last year, Cheema allegedly added his divorced sister’s name to the inheritance certificate through forgery. It was after taking the oath as governor that Cheema reportedly got the inheritance registration of his former sister-in-law fraudulently done.
