Police get warrant to launch search operation at Imran Khan’s Zaman Park residence

Police get a warrant to begin a search at Imran Khan’s home in Zaman Park.

LAHORE: Punjab Police has obtained warrants from the court to search the residence of former prime minister Imran Khan. The decision was made after the Punjab government decided to initiate talks with the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leadership before conducting the search operation at Zaman Park.

The search party, led by a superintendent of police, will include female personnel, and the commissioner of Lahore Division will accompany them. The Punjab government previously claimed that 30-40 terrorists were hiding in Imran Khan’s residence and gave a 24-hour ultimatum to PTI to hand them over or face action. However, no action was taken when the deadline expired.

Punjab Information Minister Amir Mir stated that a search operation would be conducted at Imran Khan’s residence with his permission and in the presence of cameras to apprehend the alleged terrorists. Instead of a direct confrontation, a delegation supervised by the Lahore commissioner would be sent to request permission from Khan for the search operation. A 400-person police party would accompany the delegation due to the reported presence of terrorists, as stated by Mir.

Earlier, Lahore Capital City Police Officer Bilal Saddique Kamyana announced the arrest of six more alleged terrorists who were attempting to flee from Imran Khan’s Zaman Park residence. Among them, four were involved in the attack on Askari Tower, while two were implicated in the ransacking of the Corps Commander House in Lahore.

In a separate development, a negotiation team headed by Lahore Commissioner Muhammad Ali Randhawa was scheduled to meet with PTI leaders regarding the search operation at Zaman Park. The police have closed off the road between Mall Road and Dharmapura in Lahore, as well as cordoned off all roads leading to Zaman Park.

During a meeting, Punjab Chief Minister Mohsin Naqvi ordered the vigorous pursuit of cases against the perpetrators involved in the May 9 protests and emphasized the swift arrest of fugitives. The meeting also expressed concerns over the alleged facilitation of the attackers who targeted the Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) office in Faisalabad. The meeting decided to file a reference against a judge for providing extraordinary facilities to terrorists and to challenge the illegal and unconstitutional support of those involved in the violence.

The meeting concluded that facilitating the suspects amounted to a murder of justice, highlighting the seriousness with which the situation was being addressed.
