ISLAMABAD: Investigations into the deadly suicide bombing at an imambargah in Islamabad’s Tarlai Kalan area have made significant headway, with police arresting close relatives of the attacker during a raid in Peshawar.
According to police sources, the identity card of the suicide bomber was recovered from the blast site, leading investigators to identify the attacker as Yasir, a 32-year-old resident of Peshawar.
Following the identification, the Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) Peshawar carried out a search operation at Yasir’s family residence, detaining his two brothers, Bilal and Nasir, along with his brother-in-law, Usman.
Authorities said preliminary evidence suggests that Yasir remained in contact with his brother-in-law prior to the attack. Investigators are currently questioning the suspects to determine the extent of their involvement and any logistical or ideological support provided.
Initial findings indicate that Yasir had spent several months in Afghanistan, where he allegedly received training in weapons handling and suicide bombing techniques before returning to Pakistan in mid-2025.
Security and intelligence agencies have expanded their operation, conducting raids in Peshawar and Nowshera to trace facilitators, accomplices and the broader network believed to be linked to the attack.
Police officials said further arrests are expected as investigators work to uncover additional evidence that could shed light on the planning, coordination and support behind the suicide bombing.
