PM Shehbaz satisfied over record wheat production

LAHORE: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Sunday expressed his contentment after Pakistan produced record 20.75 million metric tons wheat this year. He said that despite having rains and floods last year, the bumper crop is a proof to the coalition government’s timely action and governance.

Chairing a meeting, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif directed the relevant provincial and federal departments to buy wheat directly from farmers so that they could receive full benefits. He also ordered timely purchase of wheat and strict action against hoarders.

The senior PML-N leader directed the concerned departments to increase their wheat procurement target in a bid to ensure the wheat supply. He further maintained that banks could be contacted for obtaining a specified quantity of wheat.

Shehbaz Sharif went on say that the coalition government is devising a strategy to further increase wheat production in Pakistan for the next year.

This strategy will focus on improving infrastructure, increasing research and development, providing technical assistance to farmers, and facilitating access to agricultural inputs such as seeds and fertilizers.

The prime minister’s directive to buy wheat directly from farmers is expected to provide them with fair prices and help increase their income. It will also prevent middlemen from exploiting farmers by offering low prices for their crops. By taking strict action against hoarders, the government aims to prevent price hikes and ensure that wheat is available at affordable prices for consumers.
