PM Shehbaz departs for Saudi Arabia on a state visit
Islamabad (September 17, 2025): Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif departed for Saudi Arabia on Wednesday for a three-day state visit, aimed at further strengthening bilateral ties and discussing key regional and international developments.
According to official sources, the Prime Minister will hold high-level meetings with the Saudi Crown Prince and Prime Minister Mohammed bin Salman to discuss trade, investment, and security cooperation. The visit is also expected to cover the ongoing crisis in the Middle East, including Israeli aggression in Gaza and wider Arab–Islamic efforts to respond collectively.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs said the visit comes at a crucial time, with Pakistan seeking to expand its strategic and economic partnership with Saudi Arabia. Discussions will focus on energy cooperation, labor exports, and Saudi investment in Pakistan’s infrastructure and renewable energy sectors.
Shehbaz Sharif is also expected to perform Umrah in Makkah and pay respects at the Roza-e-Rasool (PBUH) in Madinah during his stay.
Strengthening Pakistan-Saudi Relations
Pakistan and Saudi Arabia share longstanding fraternal ties rooted in faith, culture, and strategic cooperation. Saudi Arabia hosts over 2.7 million Pakistani expatriates, whose remittances play a vital role in Pakistan’s economy. Riyadh has also extended financial support to Islamabad during times of economic hardship, while Pakistan has consistently backed Saudi Arabia on matters of sovereignty and security.
The Prime Minister’s visit is expected to further deepen cooperation in trade, defense, and regional stability. Officials believe it will pave the way for new agreements, particularly in the fields of investment and energy security, while reinforcing Pakistan’s solidarity with Saudi Arabia amid growing regional challenges.
