US Engages Pakistan in Talks to Promote Durable Peace Between Israel and Iran

The United States has initiated diplomatic engagement with Pakistan in an effort to foster a more durable peace between Israel and Iran, signaling Washington’s broader push to stabilize tensions in the Middle East following weeks of conflict.

According to official sources, senior US diplomats reached out to Pakistani counterparts this week, emphasizing the need for regional cooperation to support the fragile ceasefire recently brokered by former President Donald Trump. While the truce has momentarily halted the 12-day Israel-Iran conflict, fresh reports of sporadic violations have raised doubts about how long the peace will last.

Washington sees Pakistan as a key voice in the region, particularly due to its diplomatic ties with Iran and influence in broader Muslim-majority countries. A State Department spokesperson noted that the US aims to work with partners like Pakistan to “encourage dialogue, reduce hostilities, and promote sustainable peace between Israel and Iran.”

Though Pakistan has historically refrained from formal ties with Israel, it has long advocated for conflict resolution in the region. A senior Pakistani official, speaking anonymously, confirmed the talks and said Pakistan reiterated its position on the importance of de-escalation, while also stressing the rights and security of all regional populations, particularly in Gaza.

Meanwhile, the Middle East continues to remain volatile. While Iran has accused Israel of violating ceasefire terms with unprovoked airstrikes, Israel insists it’s acting in self-defense in response to provocations from Iranian-backed forces. Amid this tense backdrop, the US appears to be working behind the scenes to prevent a larger war and engage regional players who can act as mediators.

Analysts believe Pakistan’s involvement in peace between Israel and Iran could lend diplomatic credibility to efforts aimed at calming the region. Islamabad has maintained consistent communication with both Tehran and other Gulf states, and its participation in multilateral discussions could provide a neutral platform for dialogue.

As the US pushes forward with its peace between Israel and Iran strategy, much will depend on whether the ceasefire holds and if backchannel efforts like these can evolve into meaningful negotiations. For now, the world watches closely as diplomacy tries to outpace a return to hostilities in one of the world’s most volatile regions.
