PDMA Punjab issues alert for 10th spell of monsoon rains
The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) Punjab has issued a weather alert, warning of the 10th spell of monsoon rains expected to hit the province from September 6 to 9. According to the advisory, heavy thunderstorms and downpours are likely in multiple districts, raising concerns about flash floods in vulnerable areas.
As per the PDMA forecast, strong monsoon showers are expected in Rawalpindi, Murree, Galiyat, Attock, Chakwal, Jhelum, and Gujranwala. Rainfall is also predicted in Lahore, Gujrat, Sialkot, and surrounding districts during the same period. Officials have specifically cautioned that between September 7 and 9, there is a high risk of flash flooding in Dera Ghazi Khan.
Commissioners and deputy commissioners across Punjab have been directed to remain on high alert and ensure all precautionary measures are in place to deal with any emergency situation.
Meanwhile, the weather department reported mainly hot and dry conditions in most parts of the country over the next twelve hours. However, isolated rain and thundershowers are expected in southeast Sindh, southeast Balochistan, upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Pothohar region, Kashmir, and Gilgit-Baltistan.
Temperatures recorded this morning showed Islamabad at 24°C, Lahore and Peshawar at 26°C, Karachi at 28°C, Quetta at 22°C, Gilgit at 19°C, Muzaffarabad at 24°C, and Murree at 17°C. In Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir, partly cloudy conditions were reported with temperatures of 15°C in Srinagar, Anantnag, and Shopian, 24°C in Jammu, 14°C in Pulwama and Baramula, and 6°C in Leh.
