Parents kill two-month-old girl in Mianwali
A heartbreaking incident shook the district of Mianwali on Thursday when a two-month-old baby girl was allegedly murdered by her own parents in the Harnoli area, a development that has sparked widespread outrage across social and local media platforms. According to police officials, the infant, identified as Palwasha, was reportedly killed because the couple was unhappy over the birth of another daughter.
Police said the parents allegedly drowned the newborn in a water tank inside their house. Officers immediately shifted the body to the hospital for a post-mortem examination to complete medico-legal formalities. A murder case has been registered on behalf of the state, with ASI Syed Anwar of the Harnoli Police Station serving as the complainant.
Law enforcement officials confirmed that the father has been arrested, while the mother fled the scene and is currently being sought by police teams. Authorities said efforts are ongoing to trace her whereabouts. During initial interrogation, the father confessed to the crime, admitting that he drowned the child because the couple had been hoping for a son and were distressed over the birth of another girl.
Police officials described the case as deeply disturbing and stressed that no justification—cultural or social—could ever rationalize such an act. They added that the investigation is moving forward swiftly and more details are expected once the mother is apprehended and further statements are recorded.
The tragic death of baby Palwasha has drawn widespread condemnation from citizens, rights groups and social activists, who have called for strict action and greater awareness against gender-based violence and discrimination. The incident has once again highlighted the grim reality of how societal pressures, outdated beliefs and entrenched biases continue to put the lives of newborn girls at risk in several parts of the country.
