Pakistanis advised to avoid unnecessary travel to Iran
ISLAMABAD: Pakistanis advised to avoid unnecessary travel to Iran as protests and unrest continue in the neighbouring country, the Foreign Office said on Saturday, issuing a travel advisory in the interest of public safety.
In a statement, the Foreign Office urged Pakistani nationals to refrain from travelling to Iran for the time being, adding that the advisory would remain in place until the situation stabilises. The FO said the precautionary measure was taken to ensure the safety and well-being of Pakistani citizens amid the ongoing unrest.
Pakistani nationals currently residing in Iran were also advised to exercise heightened caution. The Foreign Office urged them to remain alert, limit unnecessary movement, and maintain close contact with Pakistan’s diplomatic missions in Tehran, Zahidan, and Mashhad for regular updates and assistance.
The FO shared emergency contact numbers for Pakistani missions, stating that citizens could contact the Pakistan Embassy in Tehran at +98-21-66-9413-88/89/90/91, +98-21-66-9448-88/90, or +98-910-764-8298. Contact details were also provided for the consulates in Zahidan at +98-54-33-22-3389 and +98-904-614-5412, and in Mashhad at +98-910-762-5302 and +98-937-180-7175.
The advisory comes as protests have spread across several Iranian cities over the past two weeks, largely driven by public frustration over rising living costs and economic pressures. Authorities in Iran have responded by restricting internet access in parts of the country in an effort to control the situation.
According to Iranian human rights group HRANA, at least 62 people have been killed since the demonstrations began on December 28. The group said those killed include both protesters and members of the security forces.
The Foreign Office said it continues to closely monitor developments in Iran and will issue further updates if required.
