Pakistan Celebrates 26th Anniversary of Youm-e-Takbeer

The country is celebrating the 26th anniversary of Youm-e-Takbeer today with great national enthusiasm, remembering the successful nuclear tests conducted on this day in 1998, which made the nation’s defense strong.

On this day, Pakistan became the first Muslim state and the seventh country in the world to possess a nuclear arsenal for defense and peaceful deterrence. The prime minister has declared this day a public holiday to strengthen Pakistan’s defenses.

In his message on the day, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said that the day represents more than just a commemoration. He recalled that on this day in 1998, former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif showed strong leadership by rejecting pressure to make Pakistan a nuclear-armed nation. He also praised former Prime Minister Zulfikar Ali Bhutto for starting Pakistan’s nuclear program.

May 28 symbolizes our nation’s efforts to establish a credible defense. “This day symbolizes the collective effort of all facets of national power,” the PM wrote on his social media account.

He emphasized the unity that made national defense strong, saying that the nation will not compromise on its defense capabilities. Prime Minister Sharif also praised the Pakistan Army for its role in making the country’s defense strong.

The chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee and the armed forces also congratulated the nation on this day. A statement from Inter-Services Public Relations said that Pakistan’s nuclear tests in 1998 established a credible defense and restored the balance of power in the region. It praised the scientists, engineers, and authorities involved in the project for their dedication and sacrifices.

Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz also congratulated the nation on Youm-e-Takbeer and praised every member of the team that conducted the mission. She saluted Nawaz Sharif for making Pakistan a nuclear power and emphasized the importance of unity, solidarity, hard work, and tolerance.
