Pakistan and Malaysia Sign 6 MoUs to Boost Cooperation in Education, Anti-Corruption Efforts
PUTRAJAYA (Oct 6, 2025): Pakistan and Malaysia on Monday signed six Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) aimed at strengthening bilateral ties in education, tourism, Halal certification, and anti-corruption measures. The agreements were formalized during Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s three-day official visit to Malaysia at the invitation of his Malaysian counterpart, Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim.
The signing ceremony was held at the Perdana Putra Complex, following one-on-one talks between the two leaders and delegation-level discussions.
Key MoUs Signed Between Pakistan and Malaysia
1. Diplomatic Training Cooperation
An MoU was signed between Malaysia’s Institute of Diplomacy and Foreign Relations (IDFR) and Pakistan’s Foreign Service Academy, aiming to promote collaboration in diplomatic training. The documents were exchanged by Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar and Malaysian Foreign Minister Haji Mohamad Bin Haji Hasan.
2. Higher Education Collaboration
The two countries agreed to expand cooperation in higher education. The MoU was formalized by DPM Ishaq Dar and Malaysia’s Minister of Higher Education Dr. Zambry Abd Kadir.
3. Tourism Promotion
To boost tourism exchange, an MoU was signed between Pakistan and Malaysia’s tourism ministries. Documents were exchanged by Malaysian Minister of Tourism Tiong King Sing and Pakistan’s Minister of Information and Broadcasting Attaullah Tarar.
4. Halal Certification Standards
Recognizing the global demand for Halal products, both nations agreed to collaborate on Halal certification standards. The MoU was exchanged between Malaysia’s Minister of Religious Affairs Dr. Haji Mohd Na’im Bin Haji Mokhtar and Pakistan’s Minister for Commerce Jam Kamal Khan.
5. Anti-Corruption Efforts
Both countries signed an MoU to strengthen cooperation in preventing and combating corruption. The agreement was exchanged by Azam Bin Baki, Chief Commissioner of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission, and Sohail Nasir, Deputy Chairman of Pakistan’s National Accountability Bureau (NAB).
6. SME Development
To enhance business cooperation, Pakistan’s SMEDA and Malaysia’s SME Corporation signed an agreement. The documents were exchanged by Rizal bin Dato’ Nain, CEO of SME Corporation Malaysia, and Syed Tariq Fatemi, Special Assistant to the Prime Minister of Pakistan.
Strengthening Bilateral Ties
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif praised Malaysia’s commitment to building strong ties with Pakistan and emphasized that these agreements would open new avenues for educational exchange, business opportunities, and joint efforts against corruption. Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim highlighted the importance of cooperation in sectors like tourism and Halal certification, stressing that both nations share common goals as part of the wider Muslim world.
