Pakistan and Bangladesh direct flights discussion
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Thursday expressed satisfaction over the improving relations between Pakistan and Bangladesh, stressing the importance of boosting trade, academic exchanges, and people-to-people contacts. The premier held talks in Islamabad with Dr. A. F. M. Khalid Hossain, Bangladesh’s Adviser on Religious Affairs, who was accompanied by the High Commissioner of Bangladesh to Pakistan, Md Iqbal Hussain Khan.
Shehbaz Sharif warmly welcomed the delegation and underlined that Pakistan and Bangladesh shared deep historical, cultural, and familial ties. Recalling his previous meetings with Bangladeshi leadership in New York and Cairo, he lauded the vision of Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus, praising his work in poverty alleviation and his role in bringing both nations closer.
During the meeting, both sides explored avenues of economic collaboration, while also agreeing on the importance of resuming direct flights between Pakistan and Bangladesh to strengthen connectivity. The prime minister reiterated his invitation to Professor Yunus to visit Pakistan, while the Bangladeshi side extended a reciprocal invitation to Shehbaz Sharif.
Dr. Hossain also handed over a letter from Professor Yunus, expressing condolences over the recent floods in Pakistan and offering relief support. He emphasized that the brotherly relations between the two countries were grounded in shared history and faith, and highlighted Bangladesh’s commitment to enhancing cooperation with Pakistan.
The discussion on direct flights between Pakistan and Bangladesh has been seen as a significant development, potentially opening the door for greater trade, tourism, and academic exchanges in the near future.
