Pakistan Airport Authority Inks Jet Fuel Supply Agreement With PSO

Pakistan Airport Authority inks jet fuel supply agreement with PSO as the aviation regulator signed a formal arrangement with Pakistan State Oil to ensure uninterrupted availability of aviation-grade fuel for its operational aircraft, officials confirmed on Monday.

According to details, the Pakistan Airport Authority (PAA) entered into the agreement with Pakistan State Oil (PSO) for the supply of jet fuel for its two flight inspection aircraft. Under the agreement, PSO will be responsible for ensuring the timely provision of fuel to support PAA’s aviation operations, particularly aircraft used for calibration and inspection purposes.

Officials said the agreement is aimed at strengthening the reliability and safety of air navigation services at airports across the country. The Pakistan Airport Authority operates specialised aircraft for flight inspection and calibration, which are essential for maintaining the accuracy and safety of navigational aids used by commercial and cargo flights.

PAA stated that the partnership with PSO would contribute to smoother operational efficiency and uninterrupted inspection schedules, ensuring compliance with international aviation safety standards. Aviation-grade fuel availability is considered critical for maintaining consistent inspection operations across Pakistan’s airports.

The Pakistan Airports Authority currently facilitates approximately 400 to 450 overflights through Pakistan’s airspace on a daily basis. Overflight charges are calculated based on an aircraft’s maximum takeoff weight (MTOW), with rates ranging from $0.44 to $1.30 per kilometre. Authorities clarified that PAA does not impose any passenger taxes, as excise duties are collected directly by the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR).

In addition to overflight and landing-related charges, the authority collects airport charges from departing passengers at rates of PKR 600 for domestic flights and PKR 4,600 for international departures. These charges form a key component of PAA’s revenue and are reinvested into airport infrastructure development, service upgrades, and operational improvements.

Officials said the funds are utilised for terminal enhancements, facility expansion, modernisation of equipment, and initiatives aimed at providing a safe, comfortable and seamless experience for passengers at airports managed by the Pakistan Airport Authority.

Landing charges are determined based on an aircraft’s MTOW, while parking charges are applied per ton per hour, with the first two hours free for both domestic and international aircraft. The authority clarified that no separate takeoff fees or double-charge mechanisms are imposed.

Pakistan Airport Authority inks jet fuel supply agreement with PSO at a time when aviation operations are gradually expanding, highlighting efforts to strengthen institutional coordination and ensure uninterrupted air navigation services across the country.
