Pak-Afghan War: PM Shehbaz Sharif Calls Urgent Security Meeting
ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has called an urgent high-level meeting to assess the escalating situation along Pakistan’s western border, where increasing Afghan aggression has deepened the ongoing Pak-Afghan War. The session comes amid reports of intensified cross-border firing and growing instability following repeated violations by Afghan forces.
According to official sources, the meeting will be held at the Prime Minister’s House, bringing together the chief ministers of all provinces, the Prime Minister of Azad Jammu and Kashmir, and the Chief Minister of Gilgit-Baltistan. Senior military and intelligence officials are also expected to attend. The gathering aims to evaluate the latest developments in the Pak-Afghan War and finalize Pakistan’s strategic response to ongoing hostilities along the Durand Line.
Discussions will center around recent provocations by Afghan border troops, the rising threat of militant infiltration, and the deteriorating humanitarian situation. Officials will also deliberate on Pakistan’s evolving refugee repatriation plan, as the government intensifies efforts to manage the security fallout of the conflict and control cross-border movement.
Sources said that critical decisions regarding border security, intelligence coordination, and diplomatic outreach are expected. The Prime Minister is likely to instruct all relevant agencies to ensure a unified national stance as tensions with the Afghan Taliban regime continue to mount. The meeting may also explore the possibility of international diplomatic engagement to highlight Afghanistan’s violations of border protocols and its support for cross-border militancy.
The Pak-Afghan War has entered a sensitive and dangerous phase, with repeated cross-border attacks resulting in casualties among Pakistani security forces and civilians. Islamabad has warned Kabul that any further aggression will be met with a firm response.
Earlier, addressing a federal cabinet session, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif reiterated Pakistan’s commitment to regional peace but emphasized that no country can compromise its sovereignty. He said Pakistan has hosted millions of Afghan refugees for decades and has consistently supported Afghanistan’s stability, but recent actions by the Taliban regime risk undermining bilateral relations.
The Prime Minister added that Pakistan’s patience should not be mistaken for weakness and that the government will take all necessary measures to protect its borders and people amid the worsening Pak-Afghan War situation.
