Over 1 Lac Pakistanis visit Karbala, Iraq for Ashura Processions

Over 100,000 Muslims from Pakistan and various parts of the world have traveled to the holy city of Karbala in Iraq to take part in the Ashura processions. Ashura is a significant event that commemorates the martyrdom of Hazrat Imam Hussain during the Battle of Karbala in 680 AD on the 10th day of Muharram.

The Pakistan Ambassador to Iraq, Ahmed Amjad Ali, has taken special measures to accommodate Pakistani pilgrims during this religious journey. To provide essential support, he has established a dedicated camp office in Karbala. This camp office offers a range of facilities, including medical assistance with doctors and paramedics. There are also stalls set up offering “sabeels,” which are places where food and drinks are served to the pilgrims. Moreover, the camp office assists with verification of passports and documents to ensure a smooth experience for the pilgrims.

The establishment of the Karbala Camp Office is a response to the special directives from the Pakistan Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The aim is to ensure that Pakistani pilgrims receive all the necessary support and care during their journey to Karbala. The significance of this event draws hundreds of thousands of devotees, who have gathered in Baghdad and are making their way to Karbala to honor the memory of Hazrat Imam Hussain, the grandson of Prophet Muhammad SAW.

Every year, mourners embark on this pilgrimage to Karbala, setting up makeshift camps along the way. Their purpose is to pay tribute to the bravery and sacrifice of Prophet Muhammad SAW’s grandson and his family. Despite being vastly outnumbered, Hazrat Imam Hussain and his followers displayed unwavering courage in the face of adversity. They were martyred after a short but valiant battle against the forces of the Umayyad Caliph Yazid I. This annual pilgrimage stands as a powerful symbol of devotion and remembrance for Muslims all around the world.

The journey to Karbala is not just a physical one; it holds deep spiritual significance for the participants. In addition to the religious aspect, this pilgrimage fosters a sense of unity and camaraderie among Muslims. People from different backgrounds, cultures, and nationalities come together to commemorate the martyrdom of Hazrat Imam Hussain. The shared experience strengthens the bonds of brotherhood and sisterhood among the participants.
