Nida Dar named Pakistan women cricket team captain

LAHORE: The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) on Thursday announced Nida Dar as women cricket team captain.

The board also made several key appointments for the Pakistan women’s team. Nida Dar has been named as the new captain of the team, Mark Coles has been appointed as the head coach, and Saleem Jaffar will be the chair of the Women’s Selection Committee.

The appointments were approved by the Chair of the PCB Management Committee, Najam Sethi, and are part of the PCB’s vision and strategy to invest more in women’s cricket.

The team has a busy schedule ahead of them, with five bilateral cricket series and 17 T20Is scheduled in an 11-month period from August 2023 to July 2024. These matches will lead up to the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup in Bangladesh and the ICC Women’s World Cup in India, which will be held in 2024 and 2025, respectively.

Nida Dar, who is one of the most experienced players in Pakistan, has been chosen as the new captain. She replaces Bismah Maroof, who stepped down from captaincy following the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2023. Nida is a highly-respected player and the leading wicket-taker in T20I women’s cricket with 126 wickets to her name. She was also the PCB Women’s Cricketer of the Year for 2021 and has represented Pakistan in 130 T20Is and 99 ODIs.

Najam Sethi congratulated Nida, Mark, and Saleem on their appointments and expressed confidence in their ability to help young cricketers fulfill their dreams of becoming top-quality international cricketers while also ensuring the team emulates their previous performances and achievements.
