Netanyahu urges Iranians to fight for freedom:
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has issued a direct call for the Iranian people to rise up against their government, pledging that Israel will provide full development support, including advanced water technology, if they succeed in bringing change. In a video posted on his official X account, Netanyahu accused Iran’s leadership of waging war against Israel while neglecting the urgent needs of its citizens.
He warned that Iran is on the brink of a severe water crisis, claiming that the country’s dams could run dry as early as September or October 2025. According to Netanyahu, the crisis is being worsened by electricity shortages, high inflation, and economic hardship, leaving ordinary Iranians struggling to meet basic needs. Drawing a sharp contrast, he highlighted Israel’s success in water management, noting that 90% of the nation’s water is recycled, while many Iranian children “don’t have cold water” during the extreme summer heat.
Netanyahu pledged that if Iranians overthrow their current government, “Israel’s top water experts will flood into every Iranian city, bringing cutting-edge technology and know-how.” He accused Tehran’s rulers of diverting public funds to finance Hezbollah, Hamas, and the Houthis instead of investing in public welfare and infrastructure.
Calling on Iranians to rally and protest against the authorities, Netanyahu invoked the words of Israel’s founder Theodor Herzl: “If you will it, a free Iran is no dream. Now is the time for action. Now is the time to fight for freedom.” His comments are expected to draw a strong reaction from Tehran, which has long accused Israel of interfering in its domestic affairs.
The remarks could also stir mixed reactions internationally, with some countries likely to view the call as support for democracy, while others may see it as a direct attempt to destabilize Iran. As the region braces for possible diplomatic fallout, Netanyahu’s appeal marks one of the most direct and provocative messages from an Israeli leader to the Iranian people in recent years.
