JEDDAH: Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) supremo and former three-time Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif held a meeting with Saudi Crown Prince Mohammad Bin Salman, Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Marriyum Aurangzeb confirmed on Friday.
Taking to Twitter, Marriyum Aurangzeb said, “Quaid Muhammad Nawaz Sharif met with the Prime Minister of Saudi Arabia Crown Prince Muhammad bin Salman. Ms. Maryam Nawaz was also present in the meeting. The leaders discussed further development of Saudi-Pak brotherly relations and solutions to the problems faced by Pakistan. Quaid Nawaz Sharif expressed good wishes for the Saudi leadership,”.
The sources privy to the development said that the meeting between Mohammad Bin Salman and Nawaz Sharif remained positive as they held long discussions on different issues and their solution at Qaisar Al-Salama.
Maryam Nawaz, they said, was also present there in the meeting.
The PML-N supremo and his family members arrived in Saudi Arabia on invitation of the crown prince and they performed Umrah during the holy month of Ramadan.
The meeting is taking place at the moment when Pakistan’s top court is hearing a matter related to general elections in Punjab. Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and the ruling partners are fighting legal battle for the elections as the former wanted early elections in Punjab and Khyber Pakthunkhwa while the latter wanted the general elections in the country simultaneously.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif had to visit Saudi Arabia, join his brother and other family members there but he could not go due to the legal battle about the next general elections as the Supreme Court had summoned heads/representatives of the major political parties for their views on the date of elections.
