Murree Entry Routes Reopened for Tourists After Snowfall Safety Measures

MURREE: All entry routes to Murree, including the Murree Expressway, have been reopened for tourists after authorities completed precautionary safety measures following heavy snowfall, reported on Tuesday.

The routes had been temporarily closed last week as a preventive step due to intense snowfall and deteriorating road conditions.

According to the Traffic Police, the Murree Expressway remains open despite severe cold weather. A spokesperson for City Traffic Police Murree said traffic personnel are fully deployed in the field and continue to perform their duties despite harsh conditions.

Traffic wardens are assisting vehicles stranded due to snow by pushing them to safer locations, while tourists are being regularly briefed on safe driving practices during snowy conditions.

Authorities have advised drivers to maintain low speeds, strictly follow lane discipline, and avoid double-lane driving. The use of four-wheel-drive vehicles and tyre chains has been strongly recommended during snowfall.

Tourists have also been urged to avoid unnecessary stopping on slippery roads and refrain from taking selfies on roadsides, as reduced traction and visibility pose serious risks.

In case of any emergency or accident, citizens have been instructed to immediately contact the police helpline at 15.

Heavy snowfall has blanketed Murree and the Galiyat region in white, with approximately two feet of snow recorded in Murree and more than three feet in parts of Galiyat.

Authorities have reiterated their appeal for visitors to cooperate with law enforcement agencies and follow safety instructions to prevent accidents and ensure smooth traffic flow during winter conditions.
