Mourners Observe Muharram 9 Processions amid strict security Measures

People all over the country are participating in processions on Muharram 9 to honor the martyrdom of Hazrat Imam Hussain (RA), his family, and his followers in Karbala.

In various cities across the country, mourners have come together to take out processions on Muharram 9, a day of great significance in Islam, to honor the memory of Hazrat Imam Hussain (RA) and his family and followers who were martyred in the Battle of Karbala. As these processions proceed along their traditional routes, different cities such as Karachi, Islamabad, Lahore, Rawalpindi, and Quetta are witnessing strict security measures put in place by the authorities to ensure a peaceful commemoration.

Ensuring Security during Muharram 9 Processions

Authorities in the cities have taken precautionary steps to maintain security and prevent any untoward incidents during the processions. In many areas, roads leading to the procession routes have been blocked off using shipping containers and barbed wires. Additionally, cellular phone services have been suspended around the procession sites to minimize potential risks. As an added measure, pillion riding on motorcycles has been banned in most major cities.

Deployment of Security Personnel and Surveillance

To safeguard the processions and maintain peace, a significant number of security personnel have been deployed in different cities. Hundreds of officers are on duty, and closed-circuit television (CCTV) cameras have been installed along the routes to monitor the proceedings. This increased surveillance aims to deter any potential disruptions and ensure that mourners can express their grief and devotion without fear.

Muharram 9 Processions in Different Cities

Karachi: The central procession in Karachi will start from Nishtarpark and follow the traditional route to Imambargah Hussainiya Iraniyan Kharadar. More than 10,000 security personnel and 3,000 traffic officers will be on duty to ensure a smooth and secure event.

Quetta: The central procession in Quetta will start from Imambargah Nasir-ul-Azha at Megangi Road. The police have cordoned off passageways along the route and sealed buildings and shops in the vicinity to prevent any disturbances.

Lahore: The main procession in Lahore will be taken out from Pando street and culminate at the same point after passing through Khema Sadat. Traffic along the routes will be suspended, and diversions will be in place to facilitate alternate routes for motorists.

Islamabad: In the federal capital, mourners will take out processions along the traditional routes. Partial suspension of mobile phone services from 9 am till midnight will be in effect as part of the security measures.

Rawalpindi: The main procession in Rawalpindi will begin from Chittian Hattian and security measures have been put in place to ensure a safe commemoration.

Peshawar: The main procession in Peshawar will start from Sadar Imam Bargah Hussainiya Hall. With more than 13,000 deployed policemen, the authorities are taking stringent security measures. Mobile services in the city have been suspended, and drone cameras will also be utilized to monitor the processions.

Multan: The procession in Multan will commence from Mumtazabad and follow the traditional route. Over 2,000 security personnel and 50 CCTV cameras have been deployed to ensure the safety of mourners.
