More Than 28 Million Children Out of Schools in Pakistan

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan now has more children out of school than any other country in the world, with 28 million of them not attending school. The recent development is a very bad reflection on the policymakers’ actions.

The caretaker Federal Education Minister, Madad Ali Sindhi, sent a letter to the Punjab Education Minister, sharing his worries. He said that back in 2021, there were about 18.7 million kids not in school. But now, in 2023, that number has shot up to 28 million.

This means more and more kids are missing out on education. In fact, Pakistan has the highest percentage of out-of-school kids in the world.

The letter asked all provincial education ministers to come up with a plan. This plan should have facts and figures, and it should also talk about the problems that stop kids from going to school. They need to come up with solutions to fix this problem for good.

On another note, people who know about this issue say that Pakistan spends only 1.7% of its money (GDP) on education. But to make education better, the government should spend at least 4%. This would help improve schools and get more kids into classrooms.

Both the national and provincial governments have talked about making a plan to fix this problem, but so far, nothing much has happened. This is an emergency, and something needs to change so that all kids can have a chance to get a good education. It’s important for the future of the country.
