KARACHI: A recent assassination attempt on political activist Muhammad Naeem in Karachi was narrowly averted after the attacker’s pistol failed to fire, despite multiple attempts.
CCTV footage of the incident, which has since gone viral on social media, shows Naeem walking down a street before an assailant wearing a coloured helmet rushes up from behind and attempts to shoot him. However, the gun jams and despite the attacker’s efforts to cock the pistol again, it fails to fire once more.
Naeem manages to escape, while the attacker flees the scene. Police are investigating the incident, which they believe may be linked to Naeem’s recent switch in political parties. They are currently collecting CCTV footage from the location of the suspect.
The city of Karachi has long been plagued by street violence, ranging from petty theft to targeted killings. Such incidents not only cause financial losses to the victims but also erode trust in the police force responsible for maintaining law and order.
As economic difficulties mount, the situation is rapidly deteriorating, with innocent lives being lost. This underscores the urgent need for accountability and reforms in the criminal justice system.
