Man Convicted in Gun Attack on Imran Khan Sentenced to Four Years for Illegal Arms Possession

WAZIRABAD: A court in Wazirabad on Tuesday awarded a four-year prison sentence to Muhammad Naveed, the man already convicted in the gun attack on PTI founder Imran Khan, in a separate case related to the illegal possession of weapons.

The court found Naveed guilty under the Punjab Arms (Amendment) Ordinance, 2015, sentencing him to four years of simple imprisonment and imposing a fine of Rs40,000.

In its verdict, the court ruled that the sentence would run concurrently with other punishments Naveed is already serving in different cases. It further directed that the sentence would be considered effective from the date of his arrest and custody.

Earlier, in April 2025, an anti-terrorism court had sentenced Naveed to life imprisonment under Section 302(b) of the Pakistan Penal Code in connection with the Wazirabad attack.

The shooting incident occurred on November 3, 2022, during PTI’s long march in Wazirabad, when a gunman opened fire on the procession. Former prime minister Imran Khan, Senator Faisal Javed, and several others were injured in the attack, while one PTI worker lost his life.

The case remains one of the most high-profile political violence incidents in recent years, with multiple proceedings continuing against those involved.
