LHC directs immediate release of Shah Mehmood Qureshi

In a significant development, the Lahore High Court (LHC) Rawalpindi Bench, headed by Justice Chaudhry Abdul Aziz, has ordered the immediate release of Shah Mehmood Qureshi, the Vice Chairman of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party. Qureshi had been detained under the Maintenance of Public Order (MPO) for the past few days. The court quashed the detention orders and directed the police authorities to release him without delay.

The decision came after the court gave the public prosecutor a one-hour window to present any evidence against Shah Mehmood Qureshi. However, no substantial evidence was presented during this time. Justice Chaudhry Abdul Aziz, in his remarks, emphasized the importance of not making light of serious matters, stating, “Everything is not a joke.” He further urged that past incidents should not be repeated in the future, suggesting that everyone involved should move on.

This court order is seen as a significant victory for Shah Mehmood Qureshi and his party, as well as a reminder of the importance of upholding the principles of justice and due process. The decision to release Qureshi highlights the court’s commitment to protecting individual rights and ensuring that the legal system is not abused for political purposes.
