Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan in the Al-Qadir Trust case on May 9 and the subsequent violent protests that swept across the country, numerous leaders have resigned from the former ruling party. The protests, which led to the storming and torching of state installations, resulted in widespread chaos and claimed the lives of at least 8 individuals while injuring many others. As a means to restore law and order, the incumbent coalition government implemented actions including the suspension of internet services and the deployment of army troops.
As a consequence of the unprecedented attacks on defense and public properties, the PTI faced a crackdown to apprehend those responsible for the vandalism. The top civil-military leadership of the country pledged to hold the rioters accountable under relevant laws, including the Army Act. Subsequently, several PTI leaders, including close aides of Imran Khan, announced their departure from the party, attributing the May 9 vandalism to Khan’s policies and expressing dissatisfaction with the situation.
