A local court in Lahore has approved a four-day physical remand for Hashir, the underage driver at the centre of a fatal Lahore car crash that left one dead and three injured. Hashir was presented before Judicial Magistrate Rana Shaheryar on Tuesday, where police requested a 14-day physical remand to verify the teen’s age, conduct a psychological evaluation, and carry out further investigation. The court granted four days instead.
Police have obtained Hashir’s school certificate to confirm his age as the accused reportedly changed his statements multiple times to mislead investigators. Authorities have also decided to question Hashir’s father, Umar Malik, and Khurram, the sales manager of a pharmaceutical company that registered the car involved in the accident under a private bank’s name.
The tragic Lahore car crash took place in Shahdara when the underage driver lost control of the vehicle and ran over three motorcycles, killing 30-year-old Muhammad Amin and injuring three others. The case was registered on a complaint filed by Amin’s brother.
Inspector General Punjab Police Dr Usman Anwar has taken notice of the incident and expressed strong disapproval of traffic violations by underage drivers. He ordered a province-wide crackdown on underage driving and warned that strict action will be taken against parents who allow minors to get behind the wheel. The IG stressed that there will be zero tolerance for overspeeding, overloading, and other traffic violations that put lives at risk.
The Lahore car crash has once again highlighted the urgent need for strict enforcement of traffic rules to prevent reckless driving and ensure public safety on roads.
