SIALKOT: Defense Minister Khawaja Asif expressed his admiration for the Pakistani people’s support of their armed forces, while criticizing the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and its leaders for targeting these institutions.

He highlighted the sacrifices made by the rangers, police, and security forces in the fight against terrorism over the past two decades. Emphasizing the extensive reach of the security forces, Asif noted their role in safeguarding the nation from the snow-capped mountains to the Siachen Glacier and from FATA to the Afghanistan borders.

Asif denounced the events of May 9th as an attack on the very existence of Pakistan. He called for national unity, praising the public’s awareness of divisive forces. The defense minister contended that those who assaulted army installations cannot be regarded as patriots, as the Pakistan Army continues to make sacrifices in defense of the country. He further underscored that the May 9th attack threatened Pakistan’s integrity and existence, equating it to an Indian incursion and the violent mob attacks on the Corps Commander House (Jinnah House) and Mianwali Air Base.

Expressing regret, Asif condemned the PTI mob that targeted the statues and images of martyrs and war heroes. He clarified that no new military courts would be established specifically for the trials of those responsible for the attacks on military installations on May 9th. Asif explained that the current legal framework was sufficient, with courts functioning continuously for the past 75 years. The defense minister reassured that the government was not depriving anyone of their fundamental rights.
