Kerala Tourism’s New App Empowers Solo Women Travelers

In an effort to attract and cater to female solo travellers, Kerala Tourism is set to launch a mobile application specifically designed to meet the needs of women travelling alone or in groups. This innovative app will offer women-friendly tourism packages, connect tourists with women operators and guides, and ensure that travelling within the state is easy, comfortable, and safe.

Creating a Conducive Ambience for Women Tourists

The Kerala government has tasked the State Responsible Tourism Mission (RT Mission), the primary agency responsible for implementing the ‘Women-Friendly Tourism’ project, with developing content for the app. This content will include location-specific information along with accurate images of the featured destinations.

According to a statement by Tourism Minister PA Mohamed Riyas, the objective is to create a “conducive ambience for women tourists” in Kerala. With the increasing trend of women embarking on solo or group travels to distant places, the women-friendly tourism project’s app aims to enhance the experience of visiting Kerala, making it more pleasant and hassle-free for women.

Initiating Change with Gender Inclusive Tourism

The initiative was launched in line with the UN Women’s concept of ‘Gender Inclusive Tourism.’ The Kerala Tourism Department plans to introduce a range of women-friendly tourism products and packages to complement the app. These efforts have garnered the support of various organizations, including UN Women. The state tourism department’s ambitious goal is to involve 1.5 lakh women from Kerala in the project, while also creating 10,000 women-led ventures and generating 30,000 jobs in the tourism sector.

Comprehensive Features for a Safe and Enjoyable Experience

The mobile app will provide users with detailed information about women-friendly resorts, hotels, women-led enterprises, recognized tour operators, women tour guides, travel agencies, and homestays. Moreover, it will showcase women-led handicrafts and souvenirs, highlighting the rich cultural heritage of Kerala. By compiling all this information in one place, the app aims to empower women travellers by giving them easy access to a network of reliable services and opportunities for exploration.

In addition, the app’s emphasis on women-friendly tourism packages ensures that female travellers can fully enjoy the unique experiences Kerala has to offer, such as serene backwaters, lush green landscapes, vibrant cultural festivals, and delectable cuisine.
