Karachi introduces Pakistan’s first-ever aerial e-challan system
Karachi has launched Pakistan’s first-ever aerial e-challan system, marking a major technological leap in traffic regulation as drones from the Traffic Regulation and Citation System began aerial monitoring across the Saddar area on Thursday. Officials confirmed that the system aims to streamline the identification of traffic violations and curb the growing problem of illegal parking in commercial zones with greater accuracy and efficiency. According to DIG Traffic Pir Mohammad Shah, two vehicles were issued heavy fines for illegal parking on Zaibunissa Street after drones captured the violations during peak evening rush hours. Faceless traffic challans worth Rs 10,000 each were generated and sent directly to the vehicle owners.
DIG Shah added that motorists would receive a 50 percent discount if the challans were paid by December 29, encouraging timely compliance. He noted that survey teams conducted inspections across multiple parts of Saddar a day earlier, and vehicles intentionally parked in restricted spaces would continue to face instant e-challans without exception. Under the new system, drones will patrol the route from the Saddar mobile market to Abdullah Haroon Road under continuous aerial surveillance, while adjoining areas of Saddar will also remain monitored to ensure smoother traffic flow. The initiative is being described as a significant milestone in modernising Karachi’s traffic management framework and introducing smarter enforcement tools across the city.
