ISLAMABAD: Like other parts of the world, Pakistan is observing International Labour Day to acknowledge and laud the invaluable contribution of the labour class on Monday (today).
The main objective of observing the day is to acknowledge the dedication and hard work of the labourers, spread awareness about their rights and to protect them from exploitation.
The sittings would be held and the rallies would be taken out in different cities to highlight the problems and sufferings of the labourers.
In honor of International Labour Day, President Dr. Arif Alvi and Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif both conveyed their admiration for the hard work of laborers and stressed upon the importance of protecting the rights of the workers.
President Dr. Arif Alvi said the Labour’s Day served as a reminder to uphold the dignity of labor and to pay tribute to the bravery and struggle of workers for their basic rights.
The President acknowledged that the labor force was a vital component of the country’s economy and urged the government to take measures to protect their rights by strictly enforcing labor laws and discouraging unfair labor practices.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif pledged to enhance the working and living conditions of workers in his special message on the Labour Day.
He also vowed to improve their welfare by offering improved housing, education, and healthcare facilities.
The government increased the minimum monthly wages of workers from 17,500 rupees to 25,000 rupees despite the high inflation and other economic difficulties. The PM said that the government was implementing vocational training and skills development initiatives to enable workers to secure their fair share in job markets in and outside the country.
